Welcome to Rosemead, one of the West San Gabriel Valley’s fastest growing communities! Today, Rosemead is a far cry from its humble and rural roots of being settled by pioneers who arrived by ox wagon.
When Leonard John Rose came to the area as a pioneer in the late 19th century, he bought 600 acres of land and named the patch of land “Rose’s Meadow.” Eventually, that name became shortened to “Rosemead,” as the city currently stands.
One interesting fact about Rosemead that people don’t know is that the area used to have its own airport! The airport opened sometime between 1940 and 1942, and even operated its own flight school!
Today, Rosemead is notable in large part for its majority Asian population (61% as of the 2010 census). This is due in large part to an influx of Chinese and Vietnamese immigrants who brought their unique cultures with them upon settling in Rosemead. Today, the city is all the more vibrant for its Asian influences, and that culture can be felt immediately upon arriving!
